just dealing with Ms S having an ongoing migraine with occasional vomiting, very  light sensitive and pain on left side of head behind eyes and around front to side of head mostly but moves a little bit and tight neck .. this has been going on for a month or so more intensely with many episodes earlier this year too little reprieve and  .. she is super cranky from it and sleeping a lot ... 

any advice re what kind of specialist to see ..? Have seen a neurologist earlier this year who prescribed a migraine preventative that clashed with her psych  meds ... just saw a gp who suggested blood pressure tablets as preventative but then decided against it as interaction with psych meds could cause heart failure - minor detail sigh ... so we walked out with anti inflammatory script and no referral to anybody else - gp was not polite and not interested in helping ... psychiatrist not that interested in her headaches either —- where to next ??

Hi @Sophie1 migraines are awful i get them too.
The neurologist will be able to suggest other meds that wont clash with her psych ones. Perhaps make an appt eith her/him and see what else they can suggest...?

These symptoms are a lot to manage and no doubt take their emotional toll, sounds like you've been trying all of the right avenues and are still exploring what works. Do you manage any self-care yourself between all of this?

Unfortunately the community won't be able to provide any specific advice on specialists due to our guidelines, however we can definitely continue the emotional support throughout the journey

There are some meds used in bipolar ii that also have some documented efficacy in migraine treatment.  Whilst migraine is considered more neurological, tackling the issue with the psychiatrist might be more productive, not letting them fob you off, stressing the detrimental effect the migraines having on Ms Sophies affect  and the neurologists concerns of interactions with BP treatment.  There are a few specialist neuropsychiatric services that see patients in major public hospitals and in private practice that might be helpful.  

Does Ms Sophie allow you to be a part of her health care?  I am grateful Mr Darcy does.

i must admit I haven’t read the forum guidelines for a long time now and will do that now .. apologies if question inappropriate 

anyway we have booked a Jan appt for a migraine clinic with neorologists and a gp appt for 7dec with a gp we know is more helpful for the meantime 

I rung a neuropsychiatrist office and she wasn’t taking new patients but also explained for our particular case a migraine clinic was most appropriate first step - so off we go sigh ...

im really glad you guys have arranged some appointments in the near furture even if its not quite ideal to go to other places. @Sophie1
i hope that they can work out what is triggerring her migraines as well so thatll help with managing them.

Hi @Former-Member yes Ms S let’s me into most of her healthcare ... too tired and emotional to discuss now but my relationship with her main psychiatrist has been non existent for first 18 yrs of our relationship I wasn’t allowed in appts then I had to be included as she was almost non verbal ... rocky since then ...
